Hat Care and Maintenance

- Moths like to chew felt and will chew a hole in your hat even when it's properly stored in a hat box. If you don't like moth balls, we recommend adding cedar chips to your hat box.
- If your hat is a light color, sweat stains can become more noticeable the more you wear your hat. The best thing to do is to try and prevent sweat from penetrating the felt/straw. As you wear the hat you, wipe the sweatband inside with a paper towel. Then flip the band up so you can wipe the inside as well. Sweat is difficult to remove once it has gone through to the other side of the crown/brim.
- If you grab the hat a lot in the same place it will wear down the material. This is true even for high quality felts/straw. The oils in our fingers will break down the felt over time and can cause holes or stress fractures. When removing your hat try to cup the crown with the palm of your hand.
- Straw hats will become dry and brittle over time which can cause it to break and crack. To prevent cracking periodically hydrate your straw hat with steam.
