The JT Chance (Rio Bravo)

Inspired by the hat worn by John Wayne as Sheriff JT Chance in Howard Hawks' Classic "Rio Bravo"
Chance, Dude, Stumpy, Colorado Ryan, and of course Feathers!
These are the immortal characters that bubble over like skillet-sizzled sun-washed oil paints in the American Western classic, "Rio Bravo" (1959), Howard Hawks' masterful, and iconoclastic answer to "High Noon" based on a short story by BH Campbell, and written by two screenwriter icons: Furthman and Brackett.
Wayne's hat as "Chance" is one of his most eclectic of his career.
This seemingly ever morphing and weathered "dough-crown" has a life of its own. In fact the hat changes before your eyes throughout the movie, with the brim moving upward when Chance is being friendly-like, and down when he must become the toughest Sheriff in the West.
There's a reason it's seen "better days", since it's actually the hat Wayne wore in “Stagecoach”, and many of his westerns thereafter, usually reblocked, and shaped by legendary Master Hatter Eddie Baron, who also blocked and aged it for its last performance in "Bravo". (Wayne "retired" this hat after the movie)
