Yep,
that's right...
the theme to
"Bonanza"
the all American
mega-hit had lyric's
(look below to
hear Lorne Greene
sing them!). Baron
has always been
proud of the fact
that we made all
the original hats
for this long
running
institution of a
series for almost
twenty-five years!
Therefore we are
asked again and
again to create
reproductions
based on our own
blocks. And
when it comes to
the
Cartwright's,
the most
requested hat of
all is that of
the beloved
gentle (and
sometimes not so
gentle) giant,
Hoss ("Little
Joe" coming in a
close second).
Perhaps the
reason is that
it is a very
unique hat, to
say the least!

So unique
in fact, what with
its towering
steamer-bowler
crown, adorned
with an unusual
extra-wide
grosgrain ribbon
with
"Gentleman
Bow", that
when people come
to our studio and
see the original hat, they immediately
recognize it, and
begin humming:
"dum-diddy-
dum -diddy-dum- diddy
dum",
followed by their
very best
"Hoss"
impression.
If anything
symbolizes a man
with both
Herculean power
mixed with with a
heart as big as
the Ponderosa
itself... it's the
"Hoss"
hat!
To
create our "Hoss", inspired
by Dan Blocker's trademark hat, we
use a specially created block based
on his original. To support the
massive 7 1/2" crown, we have
specially ordered furs that are
thicker than the usual "Western
Weight".
Each hat is hand
shaped and brushed to create the
famous "Hoss" hulking crown
bowling.
 You can order it in our
special "Hoss" 100% Fur
Felt, or our special, and sinfully luxurious
200XXX 100% Beaver
And, if you
really want to look as if you've
just come rushing back to dinner
with "Pa" and your other
brothers, after a whole day
wrestling bears, then we will even
age it for you, as we did the original
production hats, for an additional
charge.
