I
am a happy
returning
Baron
customer and
the proud
owner of an
extra-ordinary
RJ
(of MacHat
as it is
known in
fandom).
Worn by Kurt
Russell in
The Thing
(1982) and
being a huge
fan of the
film I can
assure you
that it is a
remarkable
recreation.
Holding it
and watching
the film
leaves no
doubt about
it!
It is a very
unusual hat
with curves
on four
sides but it
is also a
large hat as
well –
perfect for
sunny
conditions
and keeping
the sun off
your face,
neck and
shoulder
(yes that’s
right, this
is a hat to
wear, not
keep on
display!)
I took it
with me on
holiday to
the US last
year (which
makes it a
full around
the world
trip for the
hat) and
made a visit
to the Baron
shop in
Burbank.
The hat, as
I was happy
to tell
people in
the shop,
was well
regarded and
attention
getting,
with people
calling it
an awesome
hat and
wanting to
know more
about it,
which I
really
wasn’t
inspecting.
I can also
recommend
visiting the
store to see
their
display
pieces, and
I thank Mark
for the size
adjustments
and
tightening
to make the
hat just
right!

Mark:
Most
testimonials
come from
new or
recent
customers I
would
imagine. I
bought my
“Josey
Wales” hat
from you in
early 2009.
Of the 12
hats I own,
it is by far
my favorite.
I wear it
riding my
horses and
generally
when I wear
a cowboy hat
(which is
frequently).
I do Cowboy
Action
Shooting and
wear it
often during
matches. I
have put
some miles
on it,
gotten it
wet and
little dirty
and it’s
served me
well. It has
held its
shape and is
pretty easy
to clean up
(don’t want
all of the
neat dirt
and stains
removed).
My Cowboy
Action
Shooting
club’s big
annual
match,
Trailhead,
is in March.
We choose a
theme for
each
Trailhead
and last
year it was
Clint
Eastwood and
all his
great
Westerns.
Naturally, I
wore the
“Josey”
outfit and
got a lot of
compliments
on the hat.
I just
wanted you
to know how
much I
continue to
enjoy your
hat and am
more than
pleased with
the quality.

Mark,
Here is a testimonial I would like to
express to all your customers!
I'm an Academy Award ® winning makeup
artist. If there is one thing I understand,
it's character.
That's what hats are all about... character.
Sure, they keep the rain and sun off of your
head. That's a given. But in life, and
especially in motion pictures and
television, hats define who a character is,
and with astonishing indelibility. I never
understood it as much as I should have until
that day I walked into Baron.
Not too long ago, I found a picture of me in
the first grade, circa 1959. I was wearing a
"Have Gun - Will Travel" bolo tie. HGWT was
an unusual western that ran between the
years 1958, and 1963. The talented and
charismatic Richard Boone portrayed Paladin,
a gunfighter who was not a cowboy, but a
city boy. Educated, sophisticated, a bon
vivant who resided in San Francisco.
When the time came, Paladin would doff the
town hat and opera clothes and strike out
into the frontier in his all black
range-wear, a stygian exclamation point
which was all the more dramatic in black and
white. Paladin was armed, like all good West
Point graduates of the day, with a 7 1/2
inch single action army Colt revolver, but
even more intimidating than that... a lethal
looking, aerodynamically sleek, sports car
of a hat that made it clear that this was a
man not to be trifled with. The hat had
power. It's a masterpiece of design, and it
is a classic example of what Hollywood is
all about.
When I first arrived in the 'wood about 25
years ago, I remember passing by Baron Hats
in Burbank. We were creating characters for
Warren Beatty's Dick Tracy. I knew that
Baron was making Warren's Dick Tracy fedora,
so I logged that away, fully meaning to one
day stop in and see the headquarters of
"Hollywood's Hatmaker". Time is tricky... 25
years would pass, as I would continue to
cruise by, look at the sign appreciatively,
and wonder at it. I knew it was cool even
before I had even set foot inside, but I was
usually just too busy.
Back to that day I uncovered an ancient
picture of me as a little kid, grinning kid
in the first grade class picture. Bam! The
memory of that hat, with all its awesome and
powerful architecture, re-exploded upon my
consciousness with the power Samuel Colt's
jury of six. My subconscious yelled: Baron,
dummy! Baron! I found the Baron site,
E-mailed them instantly, and, to my
amazement, Tom Green of Baron Hats E-mailed
me back just as instantly, with this amazing
answer: "Yes, we are well familiar with
Richard Boone's hat for Have Gun, as we
built the original". Note: Insert sound of
jaw-dropping here.
That weekend I finally made it to Baron's
and met up with Tom, who knows more about
Hollywood history - emphasis on Hollywood
hat history and an unbridled love of the
town - than nearly anyone I had ever known.
Then Tom introduced me to Master Hatter Mark
Mejia. The engine block that is Baron Hats.
Here was Mark, this unassuming guy who
blushingly really couldn't quite understand
all the fuss I was lavishing on him. Mark
was easy going, soft spoken, and with
forearms that would make Popeye the sailor
weep with envy... I came to understand why,
when Mark built a hat right before my eyes.
Who knew just how much physical exertion
went into wrestling a piece of material into
submission... coaxing, steaming, and finally
persuading it that it was indeed born to be
this hat.
In preparation for building my HGWT head
gear, Mark mapped my noggin like a surveyor
preparing a construction site. We
enthusiastically chatted up the different
eras of Paladin's wickedly wonderful hat,
and we struck up a rapport immediately. I
chalked up to our mutual history defining
character for film, and I was pleased that
we were on the same wavelength... but for
me, the truest test was to come. Sure, I had
little doubt that Mark would make a
wonderful hat, but hokey smokes, this hat
was a hat that I had played over and over,
on the screen, and in my head, again and
again. I studied it the way I studied
classic styling by guys like industrial
designer Raymond Lowey, or production
designer Matt Jefferies. I knew it by heart,
and I had dissected its supernatural
character relentlessly. Having an eye is
part of my 31 year, showbiz career, as a
makeup artist, graphic designer,
illustrator, and visual effects designer. It
almost didn't seem fair to Mark... or so I
thought... and then I got the hat.
Words failed me. I was dumbstruck. Here was
the holy grail. I begged Mark to place it on
my head, for certainly I was not good
enough, or worthy enough to do it properly.
After that, I was out of control, loping
around the shop, looking for as many new
mirrors as I could find in order to see if
it was really really true. To my studied
eye, it seemed as if Mark had truly nailed
the subtleties of architectural sweetness
that made the original unforgetable. But it
took me a while to fully understand how
uncanny a match it was, not just a match
physically, but how it was imbued with the
energy, soul and intent of Richard Boone's
own. It truly wasn't until I had my buddy,
Jack Marshall, shoot a slew of photos of me
in it that I realized just how astonishing a
conjuring job Mark had done... something a
machine could never do. Listen to me
folks... you don't just stamp out soul like
that via machine. It takes blood, sweat, and
tears, and Mark's hats have that in spades.
Now, not only do I have this amazing and
holy hat, but I'm now a member of a club
made up of Baron hat owners. It's an awesome
feeling that only a Baron hat owner can
truly understand. Here is a hat I will
cherish for the rest of my life... and it
was built just for me, and goes with my head
like, well, in the words of Louie Jordan,
beans go with cornbread, cornbeef with
cabbage, strawberries and shortcakes... How
amazing is that?
Now that I've experienced it, I'm hooked. A
custom Baron hat is as addictive as crack,
but much better for you. What next? I'm
thinking, "Little Joe Cartwright". So go,
Mark Mejia! Go! And do that voodoo, that you
do, so well!

Mark,
What can I say, you did it again!!!
Outstanding service, quality and just one
more satisfied customer. My first inquiry
with you about making a real "Fiddler on the
Roof" type of cap was with your response,
yes we can and sure enough you did. Being a
perfectionist, I can find no room for
improvement in order to satisfy my ego. Men
admire it, women love it!!! I am sooooo
pleased with it is why I have already
ordered another of a different color. I
guess you can say "Its my new identity"
thing. Mark, I thank you and your team of
professional hatters for a job well done.

Mark! Thank you, thank you & thank you once
again. When you said you were going to
create another treasure, you meant what you
said! As you can read, Mr Mejia, i received
my Jeff Bridges "True Grit" Derby today.
And can i say you guys continuously outdo
yourselves. What an absolutely beautiful
hat!
It's everything i expected from Baron &
more. Nothing comes close to the workmanship
& exquisite craftsmanship that i know Baron
always delivers. Everything about the hat is
flawless. From the hats fit, the great
detail in the way it's been aged, the
brilliant blue lining; its entire character
is just perfect! It really does look like it
just stepped out from the 1800s!!
You & your team have done another incredible
job. I'm damn proud to be holding this hat
in my hands. Baron has once again exceeded
all expectations!
And you were 100% correct when you
recommended the 3 3/4 crown. It's a perfect
fit. In fact, the hat's so good that after
only wearing it for the first time today,
i've already been complimented on, to quote,
"such a brilliant hat". One of the people i
know who works in an antique store stopped
me after work & asked which antique store i
purchased the hat from. After having seen
two authentic top hats which are now being
used in another antique jewellers as part of
our Spring Racing Carnival he was totally
convinced that the Bridges True Grit was the
real deal. He couldn't believe it was a
custom made "modern" hat. I had to tip it &
show him the lining with your crest!
Please pass my utmost thanks to your
wonderfully talented team of craftsmen. You
guys are the the pinnacle in hat making.
You've done it again!
Until the next hat, Mark........There really
nothing finer than a Baron Hat!
All the best,

Mark,
Thank you once again for my well made Cliff
Hanger! I love it! Fits me well, and
everytime I hold it in my hands I can always
see and feel the quality that was put into
it with your hard diligent work. This
picture is me wearing your Cliff Hanger on
top of the New Mexico Sandias over looking
the city of Albuquerque. This hat is truly a
piece of well made art and I am sure to pass
it down in my family as the years pass on.
Thank you once again and have a nice day!

Mark
Mejia and all of you at Barons! Boy,
oh boy! You guys are just absolutely
AWESOME!!!! Mr Mejia, as you've guessed, I
just opened the box.........And there it
was.
Totally, unconditionally, brilliant. When I
wrote to you asking if the Tom Waits fedora
could be replicated, you said, no problem,
we can do it. The thing is, I knew the hat
would be a killer, but let me tell you, it
exceeded all my expectations. Every detail,
every nuance, it's perfect. I thought you
nailed the Tom Petty, but wow, the Waits
just blew me away. The craftsmanship is
second to none. The materials, excellent.
I say this every time; each hat that is
recreated for me surpasses the last. I don't
think I can really begin to describe how
incredibly pleased I am with the Waits
fedora. As mentioned before every little
detail that I asked for has been included.
Not only that, you created this hat from two
stills that only showed the front of the
hat! I love the crown pinch & crease, the
aging on the ribbon, the "used" brim.
Everything about it! The hat is truly
amazing. I haven't taken it off my head yet!
As always, please thank your amazing crew.
From the office staff who answered my
emails, to the brilliantly talented team
that worked on this hat & all my other
Barons. I am indebted to you. Thank you all
for creating masterpieces of head wear.
Many, many thanks again for a job
beautifully executed. Until next time,
Mark.............let's see what hat #11 will
be!?

Dear
Mark,
I deeply appreciate all the work you did in
recreating for me an exact reproduction of
the original "Rooster Cogburn"!
I know how difficult it is to get it just
right, but it was worth it, especially when
I showed Mr. Bayless [Lester Bayless was
John Wayne's long-time costumer], and he was
surprised at the accuracy and said that the
hat was very good quality!
The photos I've included are of the hat, and
me wearing the hat with an eye patch Mr.
Bayless made for me as a birthday present
last year.
Kindest regards and best wishes!

Hi Mark,
Just wanted to let you know that I got my
Peter Davison version of the newest "Dr.
Who" hat that you custom made for me. I
literally just took it out of the box about
10 minutes ago. I love it! Thank you, and
everyone at Baron Hats, so much. This is
just a snapshot that I took with my laptop's
webcam (along with a shot of Davison with
the original hat) Just wanted to say:

Dear Mark and team_
When i wrote & asked you to create an
"EXACT" replica of Peter Lorre's hat in the
movie "M" you didn't hesitate. You promptly
said it could be done. And here it is; again
another outstanding piece of craftsmanship.
Mr. Mejia when i opened the box & removed
the wrapping, there it was; another example
of hat making perfection. As with all my
other Barons, the workmanship is second to
none. Every nuance, the first class
materials, every detail executed impeccably.
The hat captures that late 1920s early 1930s
look so effortlessly. It really could be the
hat removed from Mr. Lorre's own head!
All the details that i requested are here.
From the fabulous blue lining with the Baron
crest to the teardrop crown & askew brim.
Nothing has been omitted. As i said before,
everything about the hat is flawless. Your
hats truly are incomparable & i will
continue to buy only Baron & none other.
They say 13 is unlucky for some. But me,
nah! 13's a good number, for my 13th Baron
is flawless, fabulous & truly harks back to
a time when style was king. And a damn good
hat was what topped off the whole look.
To you & your most skilled & talented
team.......THANK YOU! I am more than
grateful & profoundly appreciative of the
skill of both you & your group of hat making
artisans. I am incredibly thankful for
another hat that i can deem both art at its
finest & craft at its most perfect.
Thank you once again. And i look forward to
seeing you & your team create more pieces of
art for me.
Until the next hat..........
Regards, Di.

I have had dream hats in mind for years.
Two of those are General Douglas MacArthur's
low slung beauty and the exquisite top hat
that David Niven wore in the movie, "Around
the World in 80 Days". Never in my wildest
dreams did I think I'd ever have both of
them before me...as part of my collection.
I mentioned these dreams to you in an e-mail
one evening, in passing, and you immediately
said, 'we can do them both'. Not only did
you do them both to perfection, but you gave
me some fascinating memorabilia and insight
on both of them. Your knowledge and research
is phenomenal.

I still have to pinch myself when I see
myself in the mirror with these absolutely
magical hats on my head.
There is now wonderment a foot in my
lair...thanks to you and your fabulous crew.
Kindest

appreciation that I say thank you!!!

Mark,
Just a note to let you know how much I like
my BOSS HAT.
I appreciate the time and patience you and
your staff gave me. One week after
this picture was taken, this colt bucked me
off in a roping chute. Broke my neck, busted
my spleen. I have had two operations since
the accident and I am permanently disable
due to my injuries. When I was laying in
ICU, 100 stitches in my head and hand on

said was:"WHERE IS MY HAT?!"

Hi Mark.
I love the Rocky hat you made for me
and wear it proudly as I do my job
as the official Rocky Balboa
Impersonator in Philly!
All this happened because in 1979 I
saw Rocky on TV. I was 11 years old.
That movie grabbed my face and
shoved it into a journey that has
not stopped. I am now 41 and still
marvel at the goodness Rocky brings
out in all of us.
Through a series of random
encounters I ran into Sly Stallone.
Each time growing in our length of
conversation. Through freak luck I
found myself on the Balboa set in
Philadelphia. Later in the evening I
had a life changing talk. Each of us
doing our best Rocky impression.
(Guess who won?) In the video, the
picture of he and I with our fist up
is the result of that evening. Mark,
the very special thing here is that
he wasn't "SLY" he was Sylvester, a
dad, a husband just eating dinner.
Then in September of 2006, I won (as
you see in the video) a national
Rocky look-alike contest. Talking
with Sly again at the Rocky Statue
re-dedication. Now that's my job,
Rocky Balboa impersonator in
Philadelphia. I perform in front of
15 people or 50 thousand.
Thanks for the amazing hat. And to
know it was made by the very studio
that made the original! You were so
very reasonable and helpful! Now
it’s time for me to also have you
make the brown Rocky Balboa hat as
you did for Sly!
All the best,

What a wonderful day it was for me
when my Kilgore hat was delivered to
me! I can honestly say there was
tears of joy that day. The
craftsmanship and attention to
detail and also the quality is out
of this world! I would like to thank
you from the bottom of my heart,
Mark, for my magnificent Kilgore
hat. It is truly a work of art.
I want to say to you, Mark, right
from the beginning of our friendship
you have made my dreams come true,
and turned my fantasy into reality.
And even though I know how busy you
are, you have always taken the time
to be there for me with your kind
thoughts and words of encouragement,
and please believe me this last year
the journey for me has been rough,
but having your friendship has
helped me through that rough trail.
I feel so proud having you, Mark,
the great Hollywood Hat Maker as my
friend! You are a special person to
me and thank God for you, may God
bless you always.
I hope you like the photo of me

Dear
Mark,
A huge thank you for the "Sons of Katie Elder" John
Wayne hat. I was so excited
I
couldn't wait to give it to my Dad on his 70th birthday.
He had it as soon as it was delivered. He is
absolutely over the moon with it! As promised
I
have sent you a picture of my Dad wearing his pride and
joy "teaching a lesson" to some other cowboy he met in a
bar who is wearing the exact same hat!
Once again thank you so much for an excellent service
& hat.

Wow,
wow, wow! Just received my Johnny Depp "Public Enemies"
Fedora.
Let me just say, Mr. Mejia, you & your team continuously
out do yourselves with each order.
What an absolutely stunning hat.
From the burgundy ribbon to the black & gold silk/satin
lining....... Everything about the hat is spot on! It
looks like it just stepped out of the 1930s. Crown
height, brim width, classic bash, it's just perfect. I
am more than impressed & incredibly pleased: I’m yet to
take it off! Once again, many thanks for creating a most
wonderful article of head wear. I'll definitely be back
with another order. I've enclosed a shot of my Baron
Hats collection so far (the new Depp hat is right in the
middle, above your two custom porkpies!). Every hat
surpasses the previous. I am very, very pleased with my
Depp Public Enemy fedora. It is truly beautiful....but,
hey, all my Barons are! Well, thanks again for your
excellent craftsmanship. Looking forward to my next
Baron....
Like I always say.....A Baron hat isn't just a hat,
it's THE HAT!

I purchased the 100% 200XXX Beaver "Cliffhanger"
from Baron Hats. I went with the Beaver felt as I am
on the river in my canoe all summer long. Sometimes
for a week at a time. I get rained on and
occasionally take a spill and go into the water as
canoeing can be a hazardous activity. I needed a hat
that would hold up to the daily wet conditions I
would be putting it through. I will say after many
trips on the river this Fedora "Cliffhanger" has
held up beautifully. The block has held its shape
and the felt is as silky as the day I bought it. In
fact the more wear the fedora gets the better it
looks. I give Mr. Mejia the highest marks on
customer service. I spoke with Baron's Master
Hatter, Mark Mejia on more than one occasion. Mr.
Mejia’s attitude toward making the perfect hat for
his customer is a way of life for him. He refused to
let the hat out of his shop until it was perfect. It
is rare to get such specialized treatment from the
owner of a business of this caliber. I can’t imagine
one of the celebrities he caters to getting any
better service or receiving any finer hat than
Barons provided me. I will recommend them to anyone
interested in purchasing from Barons in the future!
Thanks again for such a great job on my Fedora. It is
a lid that would make the man that made it famous proud!

Dear Mark,
“GERONIMOOOOOOOO !!!!”
No, that’s neither the 101st Airborne Paratroopers’
jump
cry, nor Jerry Lewis testing a microphone in the movie
“The Ladies Man”.
But it’s the title of a movie directed by Walter Hill
in 1993 starring Jason Patrick, Robert Duvall, Gene
Hackman and Matt Damon.
This Western tells the story of a US horse soldier
in the late XIX Century, towards the end of the
Indian Apaches wars. My hat is a replica inspired by
the hat worn by Jason Patrick as Capt. Gatewood.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH MARK for your kindness and
impeccable job in making that hat. Remembering our
cool meeting at Baron Hats booth during the 2008
Paris Western Show.
Sincerely,
G.B., Aosta, Italy

Dear
Mark,
I received my Henry Fonda (as "Frank") hat from "Once
Upon A Time In The West", this past Thursday, and it's
everything I hoped for. I've already worn it around town
yesterday while doing errands, etc, and I can assure you
of the numerous compliments I'd gotten, usually
beginning with the phrase "I like your hat!" (One woman
actually professed a love for it. Its true! I was
standing in line at the local Shoppers food
supermarket.) Another, a young man, said "now THAT'S a
hat!"
Its
a perfect fit, right color, and an exact replica of
the one worn by Henry Fonda, right down to the rope
band (see the production shot of the hat that I
sent). The Beaver material feels like silk. Its
perfect (not to overuse the word) in every way. I
plan to make this rope band hat the one I wear
daily, and the other black one you made for me last
year (that Fonda wears at the end of the movie),
will be my special occasion hat. You can believe me
when I say to you that I'm pleased to no end with
the work you've done. If anyone were to ask me where
to get the perfect custom hat, you can be sure my
answer is going to be: "Contact Mark Mejia, C/O
Baron Hats, Burbank, Ca. He'll set you up right!"
Again, my heartfelt thanks.

Mark,
My “Rawhide” hat couldn’t

all: The permanently

miles and miles of trail

from hard work under the
sun, and just the right
level of felt wear to
make you believe you’re

Dear Mark,
That one-of-a-kind
leather hat band really
makes the “Winchester

an outstanding piece of

Its
two faux turquoise
Conchos are like small
pieces of blue sky
captured on the hat in
perfect harmony with its
fawn color.

“Winchester” and the
“Wind” in the name, but
where’s the “Devil” in
this hat!?

Dearest Mr. Mejia,
I read with such interest the story of your journey to find the true
craftsmen's of the "Orzuelo" hand made straw hats for the motion picture
"Master and Commander". I must say, it is a fine film of which I must be
the world's most devoted fan (as I was of the books as well), and
thought I just must have several of these hats for my collection. They
have just arrived (beautifully packaged, I might add), and they are more
than I could ever have dreamed. You were so right to be so detailed of
the master weaving techniques. They hats are true works of art, and each
one must have taken months and months of work to create. I feel so
honourned to be in possession of them, and will, in time purchase the
entire set! They also make magnificent gardening hats, I have discovered
to my delight! These are a true treasure, and if it wasn't for your
Herculean efforts to make them available to the general public,
there would be no other place on Earth to obtain such great creations,
long thought to be a lost art!
Very Sincerely Yours,

the master weaving techniques. They hats are true works of art,
and each one must have taken months and months of work to
create. I feel so honourned to be in possession of them, and
will, in time purchase the entire set! They also make
magnificent gardening hats, I have discovered to my delight!
These are a true treasure, and if it wasn't for your Herculean
efforts to make them available to the general public,
there would be no other place on Earth to obtain such great
creations, long thought to be a lost art!
Very Sincerely Yours,

Mark!
Hat arrived today! I haven't had much time with it yet, as quite
busy! But, it is phenomenal! From first impressions....it is
perfect -- just what I asked for! Fits great! I will give a more
detailed report after the hat and I have had some quality time
alone! Thank you so very much!

Mejia,
The spike bowler you made for my boyfriend’s band is awesome as
is the special blood red dye! This is going to do for bowlers
what “ZZ” did to top hats!

Dear
Mark:
It came! It is an absolutely amazing hat! I can
almost imagine how Audrey Hepburn must have felt the first time
she saw hers. I can see why you would want to wait for the
feather- it wouldn't be quite the same without it, though it
would still be an amazing hat. Thank you so very very
much for all the effort and care which you and your staff put
into all three of the hats. I could almost feel the care because
all three hats seem to speak "We are not made on an assembly
line! Real people made us and it took concentration and
creativity to make us look and fit just right.
Thank you so so much.

Dear
Mark:
I just wanted you to know that the
tea was an enormous success thanks to you. Everyone was
wild about the hats, especially the one which only I was daring
enough to wear- the one with the ostrich feathers. It set
the tone for the party as people entered because they quickly
realized that we were not trying to be stiff and formal and
snooty and that we were all there to just have fun.
Everyone looked so good in their hats that we all agreed that it
was a tradition that needed revival! One of the husbands
with whom I spoke this week said that he wishes that women would
wear hats again. We decided that we would get several
couples together and go out to dinner periodically with the
women all wearing hats (something more modern than the ostrich
feather type hats) and see if it catches on. I will be
soon making another visit to your website for a more modern hat.
I am not normally a trend-setter, so I can't promise anything!
Thank you again so so much.

Mark,
I love the ‘Lover’! Never saw the movie, but saw the hat on your
website and just had to have it. I knew it would be beautiful,
but the workmanship is sensational. My head never really works
with hats, even though I’ve always wanted to wear them, but your
special personal service and working with me to make sure it fit
just right paid off and it fits like a glove. Thanks so much for
everything! I love it!

The ‘Snatch’ hat is hot! Don’t know how you did it, but it’s
perfect, and even though you just made it, you did that ‘aging’
thing and it looks like and feels like I’ve been wearing it for
years like a your favorite pair of boots. I’ll be back for more!

Mark,
I’ve been searching for years for someone to make me a custom
collapsible top hat. Your price was very reasonable, and the
satin-silk hat is made like in the old days. This attention to
detail and skill is a lost art… but found at Barons!

Hats!
Just received the Bruce Willis “Whole Ten Yards” hat! It’s right
off the screen, like in the movie and fits like I was born in
it! Now if only I looked more like Bruce Willis or had Amada
Peet in my convertible, I’d be the happiest man in the world.
You are true craftsmen!

I’m never taking off the “Monster Hat’. This is a true work of
art, and I know I’ll be able to pass it down to my grandson,

believe I have it, since they think I took it off Van Helsing
myself!

Baron California Hats:
The authentic straw “Boaters” just arrived. They are everything
you said they’d be. I’m so use to cheap “Styrofoam” flimsy
boaters, that I had forgotten how heavy and solid a real boater
is! And what fun to wear! You put it on, and it’s like you’re
tall and thin and are ready to take on the world. Now everyone
wants one in the office, so be prepared!

Here are selected bits of praise from some of the most
fastidious critics in the world – the ultra-fans of the
“Indiana Jones™” movies.
Many of these film aficionados have purchased our
“Cliffhanger” hat, which is a classic 1930's fedora (baron
hat's founder, eddie baron made the original fedora for the
movie), and frankly we were anxious to hear their comments.
They don’t miss a thing, and it has to be just perfect!
So -- here’s their judgment:
|
|
|

Mark,
The Baron's is well done! Mine felt like and 'old and trusted friend'
from word go! If you like the well up-turned TOD/LC - look, this
is the hat for that! Great quality fur and super considerations
by Mark (hat maker)! It looked broken in from the time it came
out of the box. And, with just a bit of wear -- well, the rest
is history! I could not be more pleased with this 'Indy'
investment! I have always been partial to the 'lift' on the brim
in TOD/LC and out of all my Indy-style fedoras, this one
delivers this trait the best. If you look up from this writing
to the 'shadowy image of Indy -- above', you will get a good
idea of how this hat looks in shadows and reflections. Plus, I
had an excellent customer/provider relationship with Mark
throughout the hat building process. When you get an opportunity
check out the IndyGear forum web site. I had the chance to
respond to a 'gearhead' who had questions about your
hat(s)...hope you like what I posted. Again! Thank You! I had
the hat with me all day today (along with my Wested Horsehide
Last Crusade Jacket)...they look super together! You are hot!
Great workmanship and a distinct pleasure to have had you build
this style of 'Indy' for me. I will always treasure this hat!
All regards!

Mark:
First of all...you are a pleasure to work with. The
"Cliffhanger" was delivered on time and is styled and cut to my
specifications and it already feels 'lived in'! I have never
purchased a new hat (custom or otherwise) before that looks and
feels broken in! It has that spark of a hat that has already
seen some action and in the short time I have had it, it already
feels like a trusted friend! Now that...is truly unique in this
day and age of make it, break it, throw it away-items! I am
certain that this new, but seemingly old friend and I, will have
many wonderful adventures together! Thank you so much for your
touch of class to a classic fedora! Indy would be proud!"

Mark,
…I just opened the box a few minutes ago. Colors: Rich chocolate
brown w/ black ribbon. If it was dusty, I'd say right on the
money. Texture: Feels great. Very soft to the touch.
Heft: Feels substantial. Not too heavy
but much better than most store bought
lids. Shape: Brim generally right, I
will be working with the roll on the
sides anyway. Crown not tear-dropped as
some had feared. I just took my hand and
creased through the back of the crown to
deepen the bash just enough to show from
behind. Good pinch and no taper in the
front. Lining: Bright blue. Overall, I'm
very pleased!

MORE PRAISE
FOR THE "CLIFFHANGER" FROM INDY GEAR: |
|
 |
"A fine looking hat.
The Brim swoop looks great. The perfect ‘Temple of Doom’
hat, which is understandable because I believe that is the
claim of Barons, that they made the hats for that film!”
 |
|
|
|
“It's great to see
the ‘Cliffhanger’. It looks like a great addition to our
vendors. An extraordinary hat…a great purchase!”
 |
|
 |
“…has
Temple of Doom written all over it. It would probably make a
decent Raiders hat
All in all not a bad lookin' hat!”
 |
|
|
“I couldn't agree
with you guys more... just screams Temple of Doom! looking
very much like the hat he puts on in Lao Che's plane. While
Temple of Doom was never my favorite movie, I'm way into the
gear of TOD than TOD, so maybe I'll have to consider one of
these puppies!”

|
|
|
"...it looks great!!
The brim curl looks a lot like the Venice dock scene in Last
Crusade.... Nice lid!…It's very soft to the touch. It's not
cowboy stiff, but 'it's not floppy either. It can easily be
worked.”
|
|
|
"The ‘Cliffhanger’
Fedora is perfection. It’s so beautiful, frankly I’m afraid
to wear it, and think I’ll just put it in the display case I
also bought and just look at it, next to my other ‘Indiana
Jones’ collection. I even look like Indiana with this on, if
I’d just shave off my mustache: “Shorty, where's my razor?”
