Making hats is not a walk in the park. It’s long hours bending, shaping, wrestling and fighting with furs and other stubborn materials… all the while working with scorching steam, and all kinds of strange looking devices that seem more appropriate for a medieval torture chamber than a Hat Maker’s Studio!

Of
course getting “wow’s” from my clients and customers
always makes my day (see “Hat’s
Off” for some of our most recent customer kudos!).
But there’s really nothing like creating a hat that
becomes, in itself, a character that takes hold in
the Hollywood psyche! When a hat itself becomes a
star, then we’ve really done our job! Baron Hats has
a long tradition of making hats into stars. From some
of the old great classics of John Wayne, Humphrey
Bogart, and Fred Astaire, to more recent “star hats”
like “The Mask” hat for Jim
Carrey, “The Whole Ten Yards”
hat of Bruce Willis, to Bob Dylan’s recent “Outlaw
Blues”. One hat I’m particularly fond of is the
hat we made for Jeff Bridges in
the motion picture, “Wild Bill”.
So dramatic was the hat, that it became the focal point for all the advertising! The hat itself seemed to convey everything of the man, and the legend. With its towering extra wide cupola-shaped open crown, to the “Saturn Rings” brim with its striking open-air pencil roll, all specially dyed in the almost ghostly “GrayEye” Slate. We call our reproduction, inspired by the hat we made for the movie, “Aces and Eights”, based on the “Dead Man’s Hand” that Wild Bill was holding when he was shot in the back by an avenging (and cowardly) Jack McCall.
If ever there was a one-of-a-kind Cowboy hat, it’s our “Aces and Eights”. Like James Butler 'Wild Bill' Hickok himself, this hat stands on its own. Makes its own rules. Lives by its own code. Uncompromising. And helps anyone who puts it on find their own greatness.
